• Feeding FAQ: 4-6 months – Formula Feeding

My 18 week son has suddenly dropped his milk intake over the past week and it is difficult to get him to feed My 18 week old son has been a very CLB and has been following the routine like a dream child since he was 10 days old. Over the last week feeding has become an increasing problem. Until recently he has always fed well. Over the last couple of days each feed is becoming increasingly difficult. It started out about 2 weeks ago with him leaving 2 ounces at each feed (on average I was offering him 7 oz per feed). Over the week this has progressively increased…

My 5 month old daughter who weighs around 14lbs has never been an eager feeder. I held back on beginning to wean to try to improve on her milk intake, but she started to wake in the night as well as showing the other signs so I commenced at 19 weeks.  I am having a problem with the 10pm feed which she still needs to help her get through the night but is reluctant to take when woken. • Feeding FAQ: 4-6 months – Formula Feeding

My baby is four months old and has been quite happy with her formula until recently. However, she has just started getting grumpy a few hours after feeds and I think she might be hungry. Should I try one of the formulas I’ve seen that are supposed to satisfy hungrier babies? It’s a good question, as there is a range of formulas on the supermarket shelves, each marketed for a different age or stage. As we hear often, breastfeeding is the best nutritional choice for babies, but in cases where this isn’t possible, mums will certainly want to make the most suitable choice of formula for their baby. Formulas that…

  • Feeding FAQ: 4-6 months – Formula Feeding

My baby is almost 6 months old and seems quite happy with a mixture of formula and breastfeeds. I plan to start giving him solids soon but wondered if I should be changing the formula to one of the follow-on ones that say they should be used from 6 months. It can be quite confusing to look at all the different formulas on shop shelves, with new ones appearing all the time. The ‘follow-on’ formulas, such as SMA Progress and Cow and Gate Step-up, state that they are suitable from 6 months and that they contain a combination of nutrients suitable for babies of this age. Babies do start to…

  • Feeding FAQ: 3-4 months – Formula Feeding

My daughter of 3.5mths does not seem to take enough milk by day to prevent her from waking at night but is it hunger or habit? I have problems with my daughter’s feeding and sleeping. The bottom line is that she’s not taking in enough milk in the day to ever go through the night (she takes anything between 25-29 oz). Some days she starts off well but then slowly takes less and other days, like today, she will start the morning at 7.15 a.m. and won’t take more than 1 and a half oz (having not had a feed since 11 p.m. last night at which time she took…

  • Feeding FAQ: 3-4 months – Formula Feeding

How should I structure the day for my 3.5mth baby who will soon be fulltime at nursery? My daughter of 3.5mths is currently doing very well on the routines, goes down well at 7pm and just in the last week has started sleeping through from the last feed at 11pm until around 7am most days. I am now starting to bring forward the 11pm feed by 5mins a night and am going to reduce the amount offered as she is starting to eat less at 7am. The lunchtime nap is still a struggle but I am currently trying to train this through taking her out in the buggy for two…

  • Feeding FAQ: 3-4 months – Formula Feeding

My son of three months, who weighs 16lbs 4ozs, will take 4-5ozs quickly at each feed, but them struggles to finish the last 2ozs. He sleeps from 7pm to 7am, yet even after this twelve-hour sleep, it can take up to 45 minutes to persuade him to take the last 2 oz. I also have an 18-month-old and I need to find a way to speed up my young baby’s feeding.  I don’t really want to do split feeds, although my baby often seems hungry at 5pm, as I need to be able to concentrate on my toddler at this demanding time of day. By three months of age most…

  • Feeding FAQ: 8-12 Weeks – Formula Feeding

My 10 week daughter will only take small feeds so wants to feed every 2 hours My 10 week daughter was breast fed for the first 2 weeks of her life then I changed to formula. The problem I have is that she will only take 4ozs max of formula at each feed. Consequently she is feeding every 2 hours. I have tried doing split feeds as you suggest but she rarely has more feed when I offer it again 20 minutes later. As a result of this her day time sleep is not working! My son was a perfect CLB baby so I am very familiar with the routines.…

  • Feeding FAQ: 8-12 Weeks – Formula Feeding

At 8.5 weeks my son takes small feeds which seem to lead to disrupted naps I am having problems with my 8.5 week old son’s feeding. My son is not taking on enough milk during the day and we had no weight gain last week, although this has improved this week. He will only take small bottles and seems quite content on them, and is doing well at night. When I feed him he will only take about 3oz and then will wind and then will not take any more. I have tried letting him have a 15 / 20 min break but he still does not feed, often he…
