Feeding FAQ: 0-8 weeks – Formula Feeding
How can I manage to bath my 7 week twin girls at 5.45pm and stay with in the routine times? I am generally happy and successfully applying and following the routine. I do, however, have a big problem with the bathing time at 6pm. I simply don’t manage to bath both girls in the given time frame. This might well be due to me being a new mum and handling twins being very stressful. At first, the twins really enjoyed their bath but the more I am trying to manage the tasks, on my own, within the time frames given in the book, the more stressed I get as I…

Feeding FAQ: 9-12 months – Formula Feeding
My almost 10-month-old son is refusing his bedtime milk I am wondering about changing our son’s tea time since he has begun refusing bedtime milk. He is now almost 10 months old and is on target for trebling his weight by 1 yr [he is presently 24lbs 10ozs]. He has followed the routines well (other than the lunchtime sleep which we seem to have resolved with a catnap later in afternoon if this goes wrong). Then, at 9 months he got a cold, cut 6 teeth all at once and had a sore- but not infected ear. Everything went wrong: we had disturbed nights and days, he was fussy with…

When can we stop boiling water for our son? We want to know whether it is appropriate and safe to now give our nearly year old son ordinary un-boiled water in his drinks. He is now using beaker cups and bottles which are well washed without strict sterilization. Our tap drinking water is filtered with a Brita filter. Providing you are careful to change the filters on your water jug regularly, your son can now have water which has not been previously boiled. In the Complete Food Bible it is recommended to boil filtered water for babies under the age of six months.

Feeding FAQ: 9-12 months – Formula Feeding
Is there anything I can do to increase my 10mth daughter’s fluid intake? My daughter is 10 months old and has very little interest in drinking fluids. However I have tried everything to increase her intake, but can’t get her to drink more than 10-11 oz a day. I have tried different teats, bottles and cups but nothing makes a difference. I offer her water from a beaker but she doesn’t have as much as half an ounce a day. She eats well and enjoys her solids. She was weaned at five and a half months and is now on the 9-12 month feeding plan. Her meals are all home…

Feeding FAQ: 9-12 months – Formula Feeding
How much milk should my 11mth son be having daily and how can I get him to take it from a beaker? My little boy currently drinks 210 mls milk at 7:00, 180 mls at 2:30 and 240 mls at 18:30. His weight gain has been okay (although only on 30th percentile) and it dropped over the last few weeks as he was ill with a nasty rotavirus which knocked him back off the weaning process considerably (refused to eat anything for a week!). He is now completely better and making up for it by eating and drinking large amounts which is great. I am conscious that he should be…

Feeding FAQ: 6-9 months – Formula Feeding
My 6.5 month son vomits his bedtime milk and has begun to wake in the night hungry My 6.5-month-old son has been projectile vomiting at his 6.45pm feed, bringing up some of his tea and all of his milk. He does this prior to finishing the bottle of milk (210-240ml) normally after about 180ml. He doesn’t seem distressed by it and has never cried after being sick and after changing him etc he will normally finish the bottle and go to sleep. However, it means that by midnight he wakes up crying with hunger and we are now back to feeding in the night or if I can get him…

Feeding FAQ: 6-9 months – Formula Feeding
How can I increase my almost 7 month son’s milk intake now he is on solids? My son of almost 7 months old is refusing nearly all milk. He loves food but will not drink from a bottle or beaker. His weight is static as the health visitors say he is not drinking enough milk. I add milk into his food but he only gets about 400mls a day and that is a battle. Should I cut out solids and go back to milk and baby rice, or restructure the feeds so he doesn’t expect solids after the milk? He doesn’t wake in the morning screaming for his bottle and…

Feeding FAQ: 6-9 months – Formula Feeding
My 7.5 mth son takes an hour to feed at 6pm and is not always finishing it It takes around one hour to feed my son before bedtime at 7pm. I start feeding him his bottle at 18:00, as he was too tired at 18:30 – kept falling asleep before his bottle is finished. He takes small amounts of his milk (around 2.5 ozs) and is then distracted. He plays around the room – he does not want to lie still and take his milk (this could be due to the fact that he is a very busy baby). He would cry uncontrollably and wouldn’t want to be cuddled. I…

My 8-month-old daughter is beginning to refuse her milk, even when not teething Our baby girl of 8 months had started to go off milk whilst she was teething. She improved somewhat over the past few weeks (with us compensating with milk in her food etc) when her first two teeth appeared, but for nearly the whole of last week she has refused the formula milk (via bottle or beaker) and it is becoming very stressful. She isn’t suffering with her teeth at this moment. We are desperate. What should we do? My doctor had said I should persist with ensuring she takes the milk (show who is boss so…

Feeding FAQ: 4-6 months – Other
Question – Switch to cows milk or follow-on formula? My son is 13 months and I am still giving him stage one formula (birth to six months). This is because I was breast-feeding up to eight months and then just gave the 7pm feed as a formula feed up to twelve months. Now my son has: 7am – Breast-feed then breakfast 11:30/12pm – Lunch 2:30pm – 6 oz formula 5/5:30pm – Dinner 7pm – 8 oz formula He usually sleeps until 6:30am. I was planning on keeping him on formula stage one until 18 months and then switching to cows milk – does this sound OK or should I be…
