Sleeping FAQ: 6-9 Months – Early Morning Waking
My daughter of nearly seven months used to sleep 7pm-7am. But now she has begun to wake at 6am chatting loudly. I have followed the CLB routines and read advice on the site about pushing on daytime naps. She settles within five minutes of going down at 7pm. If I cut the morning nap to less than 40 minutes, my daughter becomes very grumpy until her lunchtime nap, which can then be disturbed. She no longer takes an afternoon nap. As your baby has given up her afternoon nap, the problem could be caused by overtiredness. Babies of your daughter’s age who fall straight into a deep sleep at 7pm…

Sleeping FAQ: 6-9 Months – Early Morning Waking
My baby boy, who is just over six and a half months, used to sleep through from 7.30pm to 7am, with naps at 9am, noon, and a short nap at 4.30pm. During the last couple of weeks he has started waking up earlier, and despite the introduction of solids at lunch and teatime, he is waking regularly at 5.45am. We tried reintroducing a small feed at 10pm, but he is in such a deep sleep he took only an ounce or so. We have also tried leaving him to see if he will settle back to sleep, but he just cries on and off until we eventually go to him.…

Sleeping FAQ: 6-9 Months – Early Morning Waking
Baby, age 7 months – Early morning waking My daughter, age seven and half months, has begun to wake up earlier and earlier. This last week it has been around 5.30am every morning. I have tried leaving her to cry, but she works herself up into such a state that it wakes my toddler up. She eats really well and sleeps well for an hour between 9am and 10am and two hours from 12 noon. She used to go to bed at 7pm but since the early-morning waking I am having to put her down around 6.30pm as she is so tired. With a toddler of eighteen months I am…

Sleeping FAQ: 4-6 Months – Early Morning Waking
When we are away from home our 4-month-old wakes early in the light room My son of 4 months has been following the CLB routines now since he was 6-weeks-old; we had a few problems initially but now he is a real contented little baby. He has always woken up at around 3.30-4am, but always gets himself back to sleep again as we have sleep trained him to do so. However, when we visit family and friends, the room we have is never as dark as his room at home, which has black-out blinds. So when he wakes during the early hours, he cannot get himself back to sleep. My…

Sleeping FAQ: 4-6 Months – Early Morning Waking
My 5.5-month-old daughter is waking early and not resettling For the past few weeks my daughter has woken between 4.30 and 6am whatever I try to do. She eats well, sleeps well during day and at night, has both blackout blinds and curtains so it is very dark, but still she wakes. I am leaving her from the time she wakes until 6.45. This can mean up to 2 hours of grumbling then crying but is this just teaching her that if she cries long enough I will go to her? She has a breast feed at 6.45am, followed by ½ weetabix with 1 cube pear at 8am. 11am 2ozs…

Sleeping FAQ: 4-6 Months – Early Morning Waking
My 5 ½-month-old son has begun to wake early in the morning since the clock change My son used to wake at 7-7.30am. He now wakes 5.30am since the clock change and poos then so I have to change him and offer five minutes on the breast. He is changed in the dark, no eye contact or talking. He then goes back down. I wake him at 7.30am for other breast and to start the day. He also wakes at 1.30pm at lunchtime nap after going down at 12pm. Sometimes he wakes after an hour. He has only had full 2 hours once. When he wakes after one hour, I…

Sleeping FAQ: 4-6 Months – Early Morning Waking
My son of almost 5mths has been waking and sometimes screaming between 5 and 5.30am for the past month For the past month my son who is almost 5mths wakes up between 5 and 5.30am.Most of the time he cries for a few minutes and goes back to sleep. Sometimes he will scream for about 30minutes. He will then wake up again around 6.15-6.40pm and yells on and off until we go in at 7am. I am pretty sure that it is not hunger as he stops crying the minute I go in at 7am to turn the light on. Also I sometimes have a struggle to get him to…

Sleeping FAQ: 3-4 Months – Early Morning Waking
My 15-week-old son has begun to wake early and not settle as he used to My son has been waking up at 5am for the past 3 mornings, after waking at around 7am most mornings before that, for about 2.5 weeks. In the case where he did wake up before 7am, I could always get him back to sleep by either leaving him to cry for a few minutes or giving him a dummy or red bush tea/water. No matter what I tried these past 3 mornings, I could not manage to settle him back to sleep after he woke up at 5am; I left him to cry to 6am,…

Sleeping FAQ: 3-4 Months – Early Morning Waking
Has dropping the 10pm feed led to my 3-month-old waking early? With some persistence, we have succeeded in getting daytime naps more regular and as per 14 week baby recommendation (also a bit longer, as my daughter was previously waking after 45 minutes and not settling herself). We have continued with a 20 minute nap at about 4.30pm and a split feed at 5.15pm/6.15pm as she is invariably very tired at bedtime (she always has had a cry between bath and bottle since very young). She goes down beautifully at 7pm, sometimes a little earlier – up to 15 minutes. However, about 3 weeks ago we cut out the 10.30pm…

Sleeping FAQ: 8-12 Weeks – Early Morning Waking
My 8 week son is still feeding in the night but then wakes again around 5.30am. Surely this is not hunger? My son of 8 weeks is fed at 10.30pm and goes through until 3.45/4am. He will take 3-4ozs of formula then is settled back by 4.30am. For the last two nights he has woken screaming at 5.30/45am. What could be the reason for this waking? Surely he is not hungry? I manage to settle him with a dummy and cuddle and then have to wake him at 7am. Should I think abut settling him with water at 4am and seeing what happens then? I have also started to half…
