• Sleeping FAQ: 4-6 months – Early Morning Waking

My 4.5 mth son is waking early but not hungry, and can’t settle at lunchtime in his stroller At 4 months I have begun to bring my son’s late feed forward to nearer 10pm. This seems to have the effect of him waking earlier in the morning having done a poo. It was 6.30am but now 5.50am. He is not hungry in the morning. It is a struggle to get him to take 5-6 ozs but the rest of the day he will take 8-9oz easily. He has not yet cut back on the 10pm (now at 10.10pm) feed; still having 5-6 ozs, which is probably why he is not…

My 5.5 mth son is waking early after dropping his afternoon nap and 10pm feed I really hope you can help as I am really struggling to follow the routine that has worked so well until recently. Over the last 4 weeks Jack has been waking too early. He used to settle back off if he woke between 5-6 am but in the last week or so, he has refused this. This morning he woke the earliest time ever at 4.50am and would not settle himself. He wasn’t crying but would not go back to sleep so I gave him a small drink of water and he finally settled back…

  • Sleeping FAQ: 4-6 months – Early Morning Waking

What can I do to stop my 5-month-old waking early? My son of five months has been following the routines from day one. We follow the advice to the letter and it had been working extremely well until recently. He now wakes up between 5 and 5.30am. He isn’t distressed, he just chats to himself. Occasionally he’ll drift off to sleep again but by about 6am he starts getting cross, so I go to him. Having scoured the website and CLB books I know that early morning waking is a common problem but I have tried all of the solutions suggested to no avail. I was hoping you might have…

  • Sleeping FAQ: 24+ Months – Early Morning Waking

Is there any way I can prevent my 27mth daughter being a 6am riser? Please help! My daughter (27 months) is waking early. We have been through the check list, and I got the darkness situation sorted. She slept longer for a few weeks, then decided she was scared of the dark. So we left her dimmer on low with one bulb in for a while. This worked for a few weeks, then the early waking started again. So I bought her a little light that is attached to her cot, which she can turn on when she wakes. This also worked for a few weeks, but no longer. I…

  • Sleeping FAQ: 24+ Months – Early Morning Waking

My 27mth daughter who is fully potty trained is now waking early in the morning needing to wee. My daughter is 27 months old now, and 2 months ago was toilet trained very successfully in 3 days which I was so proud of and thanks to Gina’s book. She uses the big toilet now and has been dry during the night for over a month, but I still put her in a nappy. Now I am not sure whether this is the problem, but it certainly seems like it, although it had started to happen prior to her being toilet trained. My daughter goes to bed at 7-7.30pm Monday –…

  • Sleeping FAQ: 24+ Months – Early Morning Waking

Every morning my 2 year old wakes up crying and screaming around 5.30am. I’ve always rushed in with a little milk to try and satisfy possible hunger and hopefully settle him back. This did work for a short period, but now he still drinks the milk but won’t go back to sleep, doesn’t want to come in for a cuddle, and demands to watch ‘Cbeebies’. If we say ‘no it’s too early’, he gets hysterical, and it can wake his baby brother up He goes to bed approx 7.30, so 5.30am is far to early to get up isn’t it? Do I just get up with him and go downstairs…

How do I ensure my two and a half year old son is getting enough sleep now he has dropped his daytime nap? I am really worried that my two-and-a-half-year-old son is not getting enough sleep and that this is beginning to effect his behaviour. He began to drop his lunch time nap a few weeks ago but is now only averaging eleven hours sleep a night which results in him becoming irritable and grumpy during the late afternoon. I am finding this difficult since I also have a very active 14-month-old son, and my husband works late which means I am often on my own at bedtime. How do…

  • Sleeping FAQ: 18-24 Months – Early Morning Waking

My 21-month-old daughter is waking early. My 21-month-girl is starting to wake at 6-6.30am. She has always slept until 7-7.30am. She is also becoming difficult to settle at 7pm. She lies in her cot and chatters/plays until 8pm. She is currently having two hours’ sleep at lunchtime from 1pm to 3pm. Some days she doesn’t seem very tired when I put her down. Is this a sign that I should cut down her lunchtime nap? I also have a newborn and I would be grateful for any help. Katherine Annabelle is beginning to show all the signs of needing to cut back on her daytime sleep. Try waking her 10…

What can we do to get 22 month Isla to sleep later? Isla has been a great contented baby, but we are having troubles with early waking. She is waking at 5.30-6am. I have checked all the usual reasons; she sleeps in a bag, and has done since a baby, she is definitely not cold, her room is completely blacked out. In the space of several weeks she went from having a 2hr lunchtime nap (1-3pm) to refusing a nap altogether. We tried that but then started to have night time waking. So after a few noisy days we got back to having a lunchtime nap which I reduced to…
