• Feeding FAQ: 4-6 months – Weaning

One of my 5mth twins seems to be putting on weight rather quickly. Should I cut back on his milk? I am concerned whether my twins are eating the right amount. My girl seems fine, but my boy appears to be putting on weight pretty fast and is getting a bit podgy! They eat very similar amounts. Are the amounts they’re eating normal for their age and weight? And if it’s too much, how can I cut it down without them (especially him) getting upset at having their bottle taken away? My son feeds at 7.45am 7oz formula, 11am 6ozs, 2.30pm 6ozs, 2.30pm 6ozs, 5.30pm 7ozs. At 7.45am he takes…

I am not sure if my 5mth baby needs solids three times a day or to go onto formula to prevent her night feeds My daughter still needs feeding at 10pm and 3am. I don’t know whether to go onto 3 solid meals a day [breakfast, lunch and tea] or whether the time has come to convert over to formula. Which should I do first anyway? With regard to formula feeding at which feeding should I bring this in? I have a feeling my baby will reject this initially. How do I deal with that? I do need to do something as my daughter still needs feeding every three hours…

My son of 5mths 3 weeks still is having his 10pm feed despite being weaned over a month ago My son is now 5 months 3 weeks and I cannot get him to drop his 10pm feed. Admittedly we started weaning him later than the book suggested – getting over Xmas in UK and then to take out breast feeding – but today he is taking 5 (probably smaller then normal) cubes at lunch and 5 teaspoons plus 2 cubes at 6pm. His milk intake is however lowish and he has become very fretful on the bottle at feed times so needs a lot of coaxing. My son feeds at…

We have weaned our 5mth son on advice but he is still waking up hungry in the night I have been following the routines since my son was two weeks old and have found it great. Although we have only had a handful of nights where he has sleep through to 7am we have enjoyed the structure of the days and the fact that we only have to get up once in the night. We have tried and failed with the 10pm feeding and therefore ask a lot to go for 12 hours! The 10pm feed seems to make him hungrier and we are up at least three times if…

  • Feeding FAQ: 4-6 months – Weaning

How can I manage both children at teatime once my 4-month-old son is on solids? My 2-year-old daughter is a Contented Little Baby and maintains a routine with a 2 hour nap at lunch time (1pm to 3pm), tea around 5pm, bath and bed 6.30pm to 7pm. I am having difficulty fitting my 4-month-old son’s routine into this, particularly in the 5pm to 7pm slot. Please can you give me some advice on how I can organise his bath (5.30pm), milk (currently at 6pm) and bed (around 6.15pm), and how I can adapt this when he begins solids. Please bear in mind that I am alone for the bath and…

My 4mth baby has started to wake up in the night and need a feed to resettle him. Could he be ready to be weaned? I have been following the CLB weaning guidelines to the letter, and all was going great till about a week ago, when my daughter started to wake up in the night with a dirty nappy and what sounded like wind. I have been trying not go to her and letting her get herself back to sleep. She was really quite good at getting herself to sleep but now she seems to be really struggling and cries for about an hour which makes me think it…

  • Feeding FAQ: 4-6 months – Formula Feeding

My son is 19 weeks and has suddenly and drastically reduced his milk intake My 19-week old son sleeps well at night (from about 8pm to 7am), although I have to wake him and give him a full feed at 10-11pm. The problem is that up until three weeks ago he was taking 6-7 oz at each of his five milk feeds. However, over the space of about five days, he began to take less and less, and was down to about 2-4 oz from each bottle, except the last one at night which he usually finished. Nothing seemed to work to get him to drink his milk again –…

Low weight gain and reflux in my 18-week-old daughter My daughter Alicia is now 18 weeks old. She is my second child. My first is a boy of 25 months called Jacob. Both children were introduced to Gina’s routines since they left hospital. Alicia took very well to the routine. However, her weight gain isn’t in line with Gina’s recommendations. Alicia weighed 6lbs 2ozs at birth and she was born a week and a half early by elective c-section. Her weight came as a bit of a shock as my son weighed 7lb 11ozs and he came a week early by emergency c-section. Alicia has only generally gained on average…

  • Feeding FAQ: 4-6 months – Formula Feeding

Henry is four months and irritable between feeds, and too sleepy at 10pm Henry is four months and he is more irritable between feeds, whereas before he was content. Up until the last week he has been contented between feeds, happy to sit in his chair and ‘play’ with his toys, only crying for food and sleep. However, he now seems to cry more in between feeds, I find the afternoons difficult as he is now tending to cry until he is picked up. Up until now we’ve deliberately tried not to hold him for lengths of time to avoid this problem occurring! I wake Henry at 7am, and he…

I think 18 week Alicia’s reflux is making her hysterical twice a day I have some concerns regarding my daughter. She is 18 weeks old and she has two instances during the day where she can get quite hysterical! The first instance is after her morning nap. I wake her at 9.45am, gently rousing her without immediately picking her up. She is content for about 15 minutes then she starts crying and is only consoled by holding her over my shoulder. I would like to try and get her closer to an 11am feed but I am worried that she’s getting hungry. I don’t want to feed her too early…
