Sleeping FAQ: 18-24 Months – Daytime Sleep
Grace is 18 months and not ready to drop her morning nap. My daughter is 19 months old on 4th February and still has a morning nap when at home. She goes to nursery three days a week and sleeps for 2 hours at lunchtime. She is always in bed for 7pm and sleeps through till 7am. On the days I do not work and I usually wake Grace at 7 -7.15am. She always shows signs of being tired at around 9.15 -.9.30am. She will even start climbing the stairs so rather than keep her up as I have in the past to attempt to cut out the morning sleep,…

Sleeping FAQ: 18-24 Months – Daytime Sleep
My 18mth son still has a morning nap of 20-30 minutes on the days he is not at nursery. He usually starts his day between 6-6.30am, never having slept until 7am. He does not seem tired at home but settles to his nap in 5-10minutes. When at nursery he has a much earlier lunchtime nap so manages to stay up all morning. We are going abroad in 6 weeks and I don’t really want to have to return to our room just for this quick nap. My son naps at 9.30-9.50am and 1-2.15pm when at home. At nursery he goes down between 11.30and 12 midday and naps for 2-2.5hrs. When…

Sleeping FAQ: 12-18 Months – Daytime Sleep
My 13-month-old son has begun to fight sleep at daytime naps. My son sleeps perfectly at night. He used to sleep well in the day, going down easily. However, over the last 3-4 weeks he has begun to refuse to go down for his morning and lunchtime naps without screaming. There has been no change to his routine prior to this, although it is changing slightly now in an effort to get him to sleep (e.g. walks in the buggy and the timing is out). This is because my husband works nights and has to sleep in the day. I am happy to carry out controlled crying in order to…

Sleeping FAQ: 12-18 Months – Daytime Sleep
Should I have dropped the morning nap at 13 months? My son of 13 months is not tired by 9:30am, and will not settle down for his morning nap, so I have stopped it. Now he is very tired by 11:30am, so I have brought back his lunch from noon to around 11:15am; this way he is in bed by noon. I expect him to sleep for 2 hours, but he doesn’t always do this; sometimes he sleeps for 2 1/2 hours and other times just 1 hour. When he only sleeps for 1 hour, he is tired by 3:30pm. I let him sleep for 1/2 hour but then it…

Sleeping FAQ: 12-18 Months – Daytime Sleep
My son of 14mths has begun to take awhile to settle at 7pm. Do we need to change anything? My son is 14 months and has slept fine 7pm – 6:30/7pm since 3 months old. He particularly always settled quickly at 7pm. For the last week he has started taking 30-45mins to settle at 7pm. We have a wind down routine that we follow every night with bath at 6pm, milk at 6:20pm then story at about 6:40pm and he is settled down about 6:55pm. Now he seems full of energy, laughing and squealing, and when we put him down he is playing with the bars of the cot, jumping…

Sleeping FAQ: 9-12 Months – Daytime Sleep
My 10 month old wakes early and doesn’t always settle at lunchtime My son is now just over 10 months old and I am considering dropping his morning nap as he takes a while to settle, doesn’t always sleep for 2 hours in the afternoon and is often awake and playing at 6am. Would this be the thing to do? Also how do I manage his routine when British winter time kicks in at the end of October? That means we gain an hour in the morning. Do I ignore this change and continue things with the new times or do I make some sort of adjustment? Your son may…

Sleeping FAQ: 9-12 Months – Daytime Sleep
When at nursery my 11mth daughter only sleeps 45minutes at lunchtime. This makes her overtired and hard to settle some evenings My daughter has been a perfect contented baby since birth and followed all your books. Any problems that have arisen have been solved by reading on of your guides. When I returned to full time work when my daughter was six and a half months old she settled well into her nursery and continues to enjoy being there. The nursery is a local SureStart nursery and is very friendly and definitley the best in the area, I wouldn’t have been happy sending her to any of the other nurseries. It…

Sleeping FAQ: 9-12 Months – Daytime Sleep
At what age can a 10 month baby drop the morning nap? My 10mth old baby has started to fight his morning sleep and I would appreciate guidance on what age he can drop it. He currently wakes about 7 – 7.30am and I put him down about 9.45am (I’ve pushed the routine back by 30 minutes). Some days he’ll cry for 10mins and sleep and other days he will not settle unless I rock him to sleep on me. As I want to put him down for his lunchtime sleep about 1pm (to fit in with play group pick up) I haven’t let him go all morning without a…

Sleeping FAQ: 6-9 Months – Daytime Sleep
Will my 8-month-old cut back on his long morning sleep when he is ready? I have been fairly successful with the CLB routines so far. The only problem I have at the moment is that my son is very awkward at taking his 2.30pm feed and at nearly 8 months I thought that it is either his teeth bothering him or that he is simply ready to drop this feed. Today and a day last week I was forced to alter the routine to take my son to eczema clinic. It has been two of the best days we have had recently. It went as follows: 7.00am: Woke, drank 5…

Sleeping FAQ: 6-9 Months – Daytime Sleep
Should I cut out my 8-month-old daughter’s morning nap? My daughter is now 8 months old and I am wondering if I need to re-structure her day-time sleep. She wakes between 7/7.30am and has breakfast and then I try to put her down for a nap at 9.30am but for the last week she has chattered/whined for half an hour before eventually falling asleep at 10 for 30 minutes. I’m not sure whether to leave her or not put her down at all or just put her down at 10am. Her lunch time nap is very hit and miss. I put her down between 12.30/1pm; she sometimes has difficulty settling…
