• Feeding FAQ: 8-12 Weeks – Breast Feeding

I am wondering if my 9 week old daughter is getting enough breast milk? I am concerned as to if my daughter is receiving enough breast milk. She is generally happy, content and rarely cries, but, during her lunchtime sleep, she usually wakes after 45mins. Sometimes she will resettle, sometimes needs to be fed and is genuinely hungry, despite not wanting to have any more milk at her 10.30am feed. This is our main problem. She also cries very hard as she falls asleep, at each daytime nap, just for a minute or two. She is often quite sleepy after feeds, and has longer daytime naps than recommended. My daughter…

For the last 2 weeks after a few minutes of the 6.15pm feed my 8 week daughter starts screaming as if in pain For the last 2 weeks after a few minutes of the 6.15pm feed my 8 week daughter starts screaming as if in pain. We have also noticed a lot more possetting during this period and she has had a lot of hiccups since birth. She has suffered from bad problems with wind since birth so we started infacol with every feed at a week of age which really helped. No other feeds are affected and my diet hasn’t really changed. It means that she scream for up…

My 8 week son is refusing all feeds from a bottle despite taking them when younger Since my 8 week old son had his first vaccinations, he is refusing a bottle. I need to get him to take bottle feeds during the day since I go back to work in 3 weeks. He refuses the 10-11p.m feed for 3 nights now. And for the past three days he screams at the sight of a bottle during the day. We have tried every room in the house, every position but he just wouldn’t let anything touch his lips except my breast. He breasts feeds at 7.15am, 10.40am, 2.20pm, 6.10pm, 10.40pm when…

My son of 10 weeks wakes at 6am and is not satisfied taking one side only. He then is tired by 8am My 10 week old baby is waking at 6 after sleeping through from late feed at 10 30pm, which is great. However he won’t wait until 7am for second breast and is then tired by 8am and hungry by 9 am which throws off the 9 o clock nap and the 1030 am feed. He also will take all naps in his Moses basket but always wakes after 40 mins at lunchtime and will not re settle. So I take him out for walk at this time and…

How do I get my 4 week son to feed once in the night? My 4 week son is feeding well at the 10pm feed, 3oz from the bottle then 15 minutes from the breast and a further 5 minutes from the second breast. He is only sleeping till about 1.30 am and taking a full feed from both breasts then waking at 4 ish when I give him one breast and then the other at 7am. How can I get him to sleep longer from the 10 pm feed and therefore only have him wake once? My son is fully breast fed. He weighs 8lbs 6ozs. He feeds at…

My 4 week daughter is very unsettled during the night when given an expressed bottle feed at 10pm We are giving my 4 week daughter the 10 pm feed as recommended in the Contented Little Baby book, as expressed milk in bottle. However this upsets her a lot (currently on 120-140 ml) and we end up with a whole sleepless night and her being in great discomfort. This happens also if we do half feed in bottle and half on breast. She takes Infacol beforehand but that does not help either. The only way she has a comfortable night is if she totally breastfeeds at night. I am worried as…

My daughter of 4.5weeks weighs 10lbs 10ozs. She is fully breast fed. I have trouble in getting her to take a full feed before becoming sleepy. She then does not settle well in her cot at naptimes or in the evening. I have tried swaddling her but she gets very upset I would like to follow the routines with my 4.5 week old daughter as I have done so with my first child, now aged 4, with great success. However, from day one it has been a real struggle. The main problem is that my daughter doesn’t feed for very long. She will stay on the breast for a maximum…

  • Feeding FAQ: 0-8 Weeks – Breast Feeding

My baby is three weeks old, weighs nearly 11 pounds and was feeding at 3am and 7am but has now back-tracked to wanting to be fed at 2am and 6am. Although I manage to express 7oz at 9.30pm he will only take 3-4oz when my husband feeds him at 10pm. Is he starting to wake earlier because he is not getting enough at the last feed, should he perhaps be having closer to what I am actually expressing at that time? A baby who is the same weight as your son and being formula fed would perhaps be taking around 4-5oz at the last feed. As your baby is having…

Question – Constipation My daughter is constipated (it is possibly hereditary as my son was too and apparently my brother and I were as babies). She is not on any medication, but pureed prunes and papaya really helped my son – I just can’t remember at what age I gave them to him. So far my daughter has had pear and apple. We have been weaning for six weeks and are half way through the five to six month plan. Do you think it would be OK to give her prune and papaya as her fruit for breakfast now? Answer: With any case of constipation, it’s always a good idea…
